Sara Nelson, Kathy Garrard and Kristine Biegle celebrate their victory.

The Queen Bees, 3 former GEF officers and board members, were the champion spellers Saturday night at the first annual Frederick Robie Cup Adult Spelling Bee!!! Kristine Biegel, Sara Nelson, and Kathy Garrard battled their way to victory against 10 other formidable opponent teams. Other teams of note: The LL Bean “Oh Bee-have” team came in second and won the prize for the most money raised for GEF, Heartwood Ortographobists won for first team finally eliminated (although several other teams were initially eliminated but were able to get back in the game), and Morgan Dental Care won the “Ted Sharp Bow Tie Award” for the best team costume. All the teams were skilled, competitive and wonderfully good sports, not to mention incredibly generous. Our panel consisting of Matt Mattingly as word caller, Matt Robinson as judge, and Dennis Libby as Timekeeper were hilarious and able to get the crowd involved, contributing to an uproariously good time.

The final tally is not yet in, but preliminary results indicate that through generous community support, we raised in excess of $5,000 for GEF programming! Thank you to all who made this possible. We will be posting a complete list of sponsors, donors and participants later this week.

Awesome!
